Document your standards storage

Looks very nice….but I’d like my music collection to be standardised and open…
Is it a folder per album?
What tags do you use for flac?
Do you support musicbrainz ids?
Can I add urls to articles of interest wrt a song or album or person or group etc?
What is the booklet format?
Can an album have multiple booklets and books etc
Multiple discs ?
Thanks! And yes — keeping your music collection standard and open is an important part of MusicCovered’s philosophy.
MusicCovered works directly with your existing music files and folders. You don’t need to convert or move your collection into a proprietary format. Simply point MusicCovered to your music folders and it reads and monitors them.
Folder structure: MusicCovered doesn’t force a specific folder structure. A folder per album is absolutely fine and is probably the most common setup, but the library is primarily built using the metadata contained in your files.
FLAC tags: MusicCovered reads standard FLAC/Vorbis metadata such as Artist, Album Artist, Album, Title, Track Number, Disc Number, Genre, Date/Year, Compilation and other common tags. Embedded artwork is supported as well.
MusicBrainz: MusicCovered includes metadata and tagging tools, and MusicBrainz is also used as a source for music information. This is an area I’m continuing to expand.
URLs and additional information: The idea of attaching external URLs to individual songs, albums or artists — reviews, interviews, articles, Wikipedia pages, etc. — is very interesting. This could be a useful addition to the library system and is something I’m considering.
Booklets: MusicCovered uses PDF files for album booklets, so again there is no proprietary booklet format. Even better, MusicCovered includes a dedicated Booklet Creator tool: if you have scanned the pages of your original CD/vinyl booklet, you can import those images and MusicCovered will create the PDF booklet for you. The resulting PDF remains a normal, standard PDF file that you can also use outside MusicCovered.
Multiple booklets/books: At the moment the booklet system is centered around the album PDF booklet. Support for multiple documents per album — for example the original booklet, liner notes, additional scans, books or other material — is certainly an interesting idea for a future expansion.
Multiple discs: Yes. Multi-disc albums are supported, using the disc metadata to keep CD1, CD2, CD3, etc. together as a single album.
The basic idea behind MusicCovered is that your collection remains yours. Your audio files, folders, metadata, artwork and PDF booklets remain standard files. MusicCovered organizes and presents the collection, but doesn’t lock it into a proprietary ecosystem.
