Does MusicCovered 7 support bit-perfect playback?

Hi,

I’m considering purchasing MusicCovered for use on a Mac with an Apple M4 Max running macOS Golden Gate 27.0. I mainly listen to locally stored FLAC albums.

Does the current version of MusicCovered support bit-perfect playback?

More specifically:

  1. Can MusicCovered send audio to an external DAC without resampling, volume adjustment, EQ, or other DSP?
  2. Can it automatically switch the output sample rate to match each track—for example, between 44.1, 48, 96, and 192 kHz?
  3. Does it support exclusive or “hog” access to the audio device?

I saw an earlier comment suggesting that bit-perfect playback might be added around version 6.1, but I could not find it mentioned in the release notes for versions 6.1, 6.2, or 7.

I have not purchased MusicCovered yet. However, its physical album, CD, vinyl, and Cover Flow presentation is extremely close to the music-library experience I have been looking for.

Even if bit-perfect playback is not available right now, I would be very eager to purchase MusicCovered immediately if its future implementation is officially planned or confirmed. If possible, could you clarify whether bit-perfect output and automatic sample-rate switching are on the development roadmap?

Thank you!

Thank you for your interest in MusicCovered!

At the moment, MusicCovered does not yet support true bit-perfect playback, automatic sample-rate switching, or exclusive/hog-mode access to an external DAC.

These features are planned for a future version. Until now, most of the development effort has been focused on building and improving the MusicCovered experience itself: the interface, library management, Cover Flow, CD/vinyl presentation, metadata tools, large-library performance, and the many customization options available in the app.

Now that these areas are much more mature, I’ll be able to focus more on the audio side as well, including bit-perfect output and automatic sample-rate switching.

So yes, they are on the roadmap — I just don’t want to promise a specific version or release date yet.

And thank you for the kind words about the interface! The physical album/CD/vinyl experience you described is exactly what I wanted MusicCovered to bring back to local music collections.
