Maximum Library Size
Category: Help & Support
Is there a limit to the size of the library music covered can handle?
No
Hi,
I tried to scan my very large library, but the initial scan was incredibly slow. I gave up after 3 days.
Is anything planned to improve scanning speed.
Also any update as to when you will release the version that solves the scanning bug that was previously mentioned.
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback\.
Regarding scanning performance, MusicCovered has been tested with several very large music libraries, with the following results:
These tests suggest that MusicCovered can handle very large collections within a reasonable amount of time, although scanning speed may vary depending on the storage device, file structure, and number of files\.
A scan taking more than three days is definitely not normal, so I’d be interested in understanding what might be causing such a significant slowdown in your case\.
Could you let me know approximately how large your library is and whether it’s stored on an internal drive, external USB drive, or NAS?
Regarding the previously reported scanning bug, I’m continuing to work on MusicCovered 8\.0, which includes numerous improvements and fixes\. I don’t have a confirmed release date to share just yet\.
Thanks again for your patience and support\!
Best regards,
MusicCovered Developer
Hi again,
By the way, would you be interested in joining the beta testing of MusicCovered 8.0?
This new version includes many improvements, new features, and bug fixes. It would also be a great opportunity to test the library scanning process with your large collection and see whether the issue you experienced has been resolved.
I’d really appreciate your feedback!
Let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll be happy to share the beta version with you.
Best regards,
MusicCovered Developer
Would love to join the Beta Testing of MusicCovered 8.0.
I have a very large library -- about 17000 albums.
They are stored on a QNAP NAS (core i5). All my music apps are based on these files stored on the QNAP NAS.
Thanks,
Bruce
Will you be sending me a link for the Beta Test of MusicCovered 8.0?
Do you need my email address, or will you provide a link in the forum?
Thanks,
Bruce
Hi again,
Now I understand why the scanning process is taking so long!
MusicCovered is currently not fully optimized for music libraries stored on NAS devices, which explains the significant slowdown you’re experiencing.
The good news is that MusicCovered 8.0 will introduce specific performance improvements for NAS-based libraries. In particular, the scanning and updating processes will be separated and managed more efficiently, significantly reducing unnecessary operations and improving overall performance.
This should make a noticeable difference when working with large music collections stored on a NAS.
That’s also why I’d be particularly interested in having you test version 8.0, as your library would be an excellent real-world test case for these improvements.
Hi Bruce,
You’ll receive an invitation to join the MusicCovered 8.0 beta via email, using the same email address you registered with on the forum.
To install and test the beta version, you’ll need to have Apple’s TestFlight app installed on your Mac.
