Couple of Teething Problems
Hi,
Purchased yesterday and just hit a few problems.
I have been through every single flac music folder to make sure they all have same format. All folders have:
Flac Files
cover.jpg
back.jpg
disc.jpg
Is there a certain naming convention as out of 192+ Albums about 60% show their artwork and i have a few repeat albums with different artwork. I've worked out in the options how to add the disc but it won't let me add the cover.
Is there a way of turning the spinning CD off and just having it static? Appears I suffer from motion sickness.
The main library window opens and i was looking for a while where the main player was, seems that it opens it behind the library window so that causes a bit of confusion.
On a 4k monitor running at 1920 x 1080, when you start the app it opens half way down the left hand side near the bottom so have to grab and drag it to centralise in the screen.
Hi,
Thank you very much for your purchase, and also for taking the time to explain everything so clearly.
Regarding the artwork: for the disc image, the expected file names are cd.png or vinyl.png or for multiple album (cd1.png cd2.png ecc..)
For the main album cover, MusicCovered does not read the image from cover.jpg inside the folder. The cover that gets displayed is the one embedded directly inside the audio files.
This was a deliberate choice for a simple reason: with local music libraries, collectors often update or refine album artwork over time, and embedded artwork inside the file is a much more reliable and portable metadata source than a separate image sitting in the folder. In other words, the embedded cover travels with the file itself and stays tied to that album’s metadata, while folder images can be changed, duplicated, forgotten, or become inconsistent more easily. That is why MusicCovered gives priority to embedded artwork for the main cover display.
So if some albums are missing covers in MusicCovered, it usually means the artwork is not actually embedded in those FLAC files, even if a cover.jpg is present in the folder.
As for the spinning CD: yes, I understand. The option to stop the disc animation will be restored in the upcoming 6.1 update. It was already present before, and it will be brought back. That update should be released in the next few days.
Regarding the player window opening behind the library window, and the general startup position: that is not considered a bug. It was intentionally designed that way. However, if you prefer, you can enable open in full screen in Preferences, which should make the startup behavior much more comfortable for your setup.
Thank you again for the support and for the detailed feedback — it is genuinely very helpful, and version 6.1 is coming very soon.
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated.
Ah yes i understand now as i ran picard on the folders and it must have only attached the cover art to some of them. Big plus to give option to stop animation. Getting on in years now so anything fast moving makes me a feel ill. Had to stop playing FPS games :(
Looking forward to update. Will the update just show as an app update in the app store?
Thanks
You’re very welcome, and yes — the update will automatically appear as an app update in the App Store as soon as it is released.
So you will receive it through the normal App Store update system, just like any other app update on macOS.
And thank you again for the feedback — bringing back the option to stop the animation will definitely help make the experience more comfortable for users who prefer a more static interface.
I’m also always very open to user feedback, because it really helps improve MusicCovered and shape future updates in the right direction
