Everything you need to know to make the most of musicCovered.

Getting Started

1. Installation

Download the latest version from the Mac App Store: Download on the Mac App Store

2. Meta Tags

Metadata is essential for keeping your music library organized and ensuring that album details are correctly displayed in musicCovered.

Apple Music Controller mode: if you manage your library in Apple Music, edit metadata directly in Apple Music using the album’s Get Info panel. You can also use the same Apple Music library in Standalone mode, so your collection stays consistent. Switching between modes is instant—you can switch at any time.

Standalone mode: to edit embedded tags in your audio files (including FLAC), you can use a third‑party tag editor such as Meta for macOS: .
Meta tag editor example Example: record label can be stored as Grouping (Apple Music can edit it) or as Publisher (readable in Standalone mode and in most other apps).

3. Real CD & Vinyl Images

In addition to animated discs, you can use real CD, vinyl, or cassette images by placing them inside the album folder. These images can also be created directly with the built‑in Disc/Vinyl tool in musicCovered: import an image, then generate CD/vinyl artwork in a few clicks.

  1. Open Apple Music, select a song from the album, right-click, and choose “Show in Finder.”

After importing an image, the Disc/Vinyl tool lets you quickly generate discs in multiple formats: CD, 12" vinyl, and 7" vinyl. You can also back up and fully restore all your disc image files.

4. How to Import Your CDs in High Resolution in Apple Lossless Format

You have two options:

  1. Using Apple Music – Insert the original CD and rip the songs directly within the app.
  2. Using Third-Party Applications – Tools like XLD or other conversion utilities allow you to rip CDs and convert other formats, such as FLAC, into Apple Lossless (ALAC).

A great resource for CD images and album covers is fanart.tv or the well-known Discogs.com.
